Planting Tips


•Use a spade to loosen the soil 2 feet deep in an area 3 feet in diameter.
•Soak trees in water 12 hours before planting.
•Plant dwarf trees so that bud union is 1-2 inches above soil level.
•Plant seedling trees so bud union is at ground level.
•Tamp soil well during planting to remove all air pockets.
•Water thoroughly.
•Control weeds by laying down 3-4 inches of mulch.
•Protect tree trunks from rodent damage with tree protectors.

The first three years of a fruit tree’s life are the most important to establishing a proper branch scaffold through selective pruning.Consult a pruning manual for details.
